Description

This photo shows the Messier 15 globular star cluster or M15. With over 12 billion years of age, it is one of the oldest globular clusters known, about 33.5 thousand light years away and 175 light years in diameter. It contains more than a 100 thousand stars (!) with a total mass of about 560 thousand masses of our Sun. Planets within this cluster hardly know any nights, because their sky is simply full of stars much closer to them than on our own sky on the Earth. This photo was taken for 30 seconds with ISO 800 with a Canon EOS 600-D mounted on a telescope.
